What happens in the first session?
When you first come in to a therapy session, we will go over confidentiality agreements and what you would like to talk about as you begin your walk through therapy. The first session will be me gathering information about you, your family, and your needs. I will ask “what brings you in today?” And we’ll go from there.
How often should I come to therapy?
I recommend you come once a week in the beginning of therapy to gain momentum and make progress in the areas you want to improve. My schedule may only allow for biweekly and that is great too.
How much do sessions cost?
The following rates will become effective on November 1, 2022
Initial intake session $175 (50–60 minutes)
Follow up sessions $150 (45–50 minutes)
A superbill can be provided for your insurance benefits. I am out of network with insurance, but can take HSA or FSA.
Do you take insurance?
I work with most insurance companies on an out-of-network basis. Dependent on your plan, I can provide you with documentation, called a Superbill, you can then send to your company for reimbursement. Every plan is different but most plans have an out-of-network deductible.
How do I get my friends or family into therapy?
There is only so much you can do to convince someone to seek help, but helping them set an appointment will go a long way. If they want you to come with them their first session, that can be helpful too. I do initial phone or email consults and can answer any questions your loved one may have.
How do you approach faith in counseling?
I am a licensed clinician, and I am a Christian. I use my Christian faith to inform my opinions of mental health. I believe strongly that God made us a whole person- body, mind, soul.
Is Longmeadow Counseling & Therapy affiliated with Apostles Anglican Church?
In a word, no. My husband is the senior rector of the church, and I attend church at Apostles. I (Longmeadow) have a lease agreement with the church to use the office space.
Do you see parishioners or regular attenders of Apostles?
No. Boundaries and my ethical responsibilities as a licensed practitioner prevent me from seeing clients from my own church.
What is your therapeutic approach?
I use Cognitive Behavior Therapy (CBT), Family Systems, Interpersonal, Christian Sex Therapy, and Psychodynamic theories.
